General Liara T'Soni
Nov. 6th, 2015 03:10 pmI never thought we’d have to fight him.
Our Champion.
Our Savior.
Our Enemy.
But when he emerged from the rubble around the beam, he moved with a terrible purpose. His eyes glowed even bluer than they had before being sucked up to the Citadel. I’d made Joker bring us back to the battlefield after Shepard told me I was too injured to continue. A little more medigel and I was fine.
The entire team got onto the ground when I cajoled Joker to turn The Normandy around. We couldn’t leave him, not Shepard. And all of us fought to clear a path for Shepard’s escape. He would get those arms open, I knew it.
But then, he did. But the killing didn’t stop. In fact, if it were possible, the Reapers moved with a renewed purpose. The battle took on a viciousness it hadn’t had before. As if it were now personal. And I and the team fought, we held our ground and kept Shepard’s escape route open.
And we were betrayed.
Vega fell forward, shot in the back of his head, through the weak part of his helmet. The student, slain by the teacher.
Garrus spun and pushed me out of the way, his mouth open in a scream as an omni-blade through his chest plate accomplished what a rocket to his face didn’t.
I scrambled backward as Tali’Zorah turned to help Garrus and Shepard’s fist through her face plate condemned her to a slow, terrible death. He didn’t even twitch as her own Omni-blade sliced up into his side.
Javik… Javik shot our betrayer in the back of the head and ran toward me and EDI hauled me upright. Kaidan fell at Shepard’s feet. I don’t know what the man I once loved did to his oldest friend, but the Major began to go into some sort of seizure.
The three of us ran for The Normandy.
We couldn’t fight him. Not like this.
Shepard was a Reaper.
If you’re hearing this, the Crucible is a trap. My name is General Liara T'Soni, of the Planetary Systems Alliance. We have failed. We've fought for generations, only to be conquered. My only hope is that the next cycle can somehow do better.
